Hi, it's Devon, it’s summer, and it's hot. How are you faring? Eating popsicles? Drinking fraperol spritzes by the pitcher? Standing in front of your freezer for hours? Throwing water balloons, with your kids, by yourself, at yourself? Whatever the remedy, I hope it's working and, if not, godspeed until September.
Anyways - *wipes away the sweat* - there's been a bit of radio silence on this end, and hello, what's up, we missed y'all! This week, we're droppin' in for a DM quickie, one that we hope serves as a nice little summer snack that ranks after ice cold watermelon but way way before this year’s supposed 'drink of the season' (looking at you, Dirty Shirleys).
For our Colorado readers - surprise! We brought back the Denver DM because our friends are hosting the city’s best music-filled weekend in just a few days and we thought you should know about it. (And, yes, this is Baby's First #sponcon or sorts - thanks for asking). Scroll down for the deets, and for those who can't make it, don't fret - the playlist is banger-packed listen.
If we’re going to be sweating our way through worldwide heatwaves together, we might as well put that canned heat to use and dance our way through it, reading the DM while we’re at it.
So, without further ado - let’s boogie.

Listening to: Country music. I said it. AND YOU KNOW WHAT Y’ALL… I AM NOT ASHAMED! Summer makes me love country music in the (wide) open (spaces). Who cares that it’s 90 degrees if you have Kenny, Tim, a little Shania, and a bit of Eric Church belting to you with the windows down? I will literally go anywhere for them and everywhere with them. Preferably on a Friday. Preferably in a tube top (more on that later).
My recs: this playlist and this one too. Song on repeat: Pickup by Mackenzie Porter. The country people love a truck metaphor and gosh dang it, I do too.
A cool idea: I tried really hard to think of a suitable verb for this and well, that’s why you don’t have 4 drinks on a Wednesday. But anyway, I love this idea for a ‘first-time sex starter kit' which both destigmatizes losing your virginity AND makes it a more enjoyable experience. It was developed by a mom and son who also created an app for further questions. I could talk at length about this subject but I take real issue with the lack of quality sex ed our country provides to teenagers as well as access to free protection. Imagine if they had access to these trustworthy resources for free to not just learn but make it dare I say good? It’s not that crazy of an idea. Most of the articles on the subject make it sound shocking, but in reality, it’s practical and smart. Abstinence ed doesn’t work. Love a mom who’s doing something about it.
Watching: Good luck to you, Leo Grande. Another hat tip to loving and knowing your body at any age. This movie is the best I’ve seen this year and I say that with emphasis. Emma Thompson is sweet and pure and all of us in moments of figuring out what sex means to her. I can’t ruin the plot. You just gotta see it.
Wearing: In conclusion, two words, one piece. Tube tops. We’re halfway through my tube top chapter on my annual seasonal tour of what will she wear next. As I write this, I’m wearing a white cropped one (in case you’re wondering what I’m wearing, in which case, you’re welcome). But anyway, this one is on the way as we speak, and if I can’t convince you to try that maybe a corset is more your speed? I’m into both.

Always a fan of: fun button-up shirts, with oversized vacation vibes for ladies and surf culture nostalgia takes for the fellas.
On my wish list: some well-designed camping gear. As an Outdoorsy Light Coloradoan™️, I’ve always borrowed tents, but this A-frame take might need to be mine, along with the cooler bag and enamelware. Related but on the opposite end of the being-one-with-nature spectrum: I’d also like to book a stay at this camp-like resort in the woods of Maine.
Drinking: spiked agua fresca. I’m ‘meh’ when it comes to the hard seltzer trend, but when the company behind one of my favorite ‘new age’ Mexican lagers rolled these fruity babies out….I was hesitant, but now I’m hooked.
Making: homemade hot fudge sauce (it’s easy and worth it) for sundaes or straight up eating it with a spoon / lemony smoked trout dip / my favorite blueberry cornmeal cake / and dinner in the form of jicama, cantaloupe, watermelon, and cucumber chunks topped with lime juice and Tajín.
Loving: everything about this bright and punch and print-y new home collection, as well as this bedding company’s linen options and colors.
