Starting things a little differently today, here are three important notes on that fickle precious little bish that is female friendship:
A song: The remix of ‘Girl, So Confusing’ by Charli xcx featuring Lorde which highlights the bigger conversation around the complicated nature of female relationships. Ah! The lyrics/storytelling is so good/relatable; I listen and get chills. And what a way to make up! 10/10
A question: What celebrity do you feel like you would be instant friends with?
and finally, this poem:
From Meg
Considering the purchase of: a bright idea (on sale, in red), a bad idea (in my dreams, in black)
I have the musical taste of a 22-year-old girl— but now I’m just finally cool for it. Chapelle Roan, Charli xcx, Gracie Abrams, Sabrina Carpenter, Renee Rapp— I’m listening to more music than I have in years and it’s nearly exclusively due to their doing. I made you this playlist in case you want to dabble——>
To know me is to know I would eat pudding for every meal forever.
And three small fashion tricks I screenshotted this week—

1. The outfit is out there but I'm here for the anklet with boat shoes, very sporty girl prep. This is a cute anklet if you’re in the market.
2. The way she tied the back of her jacket, I like the idea of a backward belt and you can do it with a trench you already own.
3. Not actually a small style trick, just love the whole look. And if you don’t know
- you really should. She’s a thoughtful, clever, interesting voice in the crowded world of substack style and she ALWAYS responds to my fan girl dms which I think is a rare and kind thing in the world of fashion influence. Also, her newsletter is free 99.From Devon
Relishing in: summer! After a particularly hectic June and whirlwind-y July, I’ve vowed to really just lean in and latch on to all the little summertime joys for as long as it all lasts. A few things my ‘low-key summer bucket list’:
visiting a farmers’ market every weekend to get the stone fruits and tomatoes and corn, guided by the whole vibe of Ashley’s recent newsletter and, of course, the promise of tomato toasts with cheddar and smoky aioli and a lot of galettes
jumping into every pool I can, ideally with a floaty nearby and the promise of a spritz afterward
finishing two books by Labor Day (currently reading and loving The Women, passed along to me by Glenna)
having a Fudgesicle every night
making my favorite squash dish whenever someone gifts me the overload from their garden
drinking *all* the Arnold Palmers
watching Presumed Innocent, catching up on The Bear, and eventually rewatching My Lady Jane, which I 10000% recommend if you like historical-ish fiction, a little fantasy, and some witty writing
scheming on how I can marry into a family with an oceanside vacation home in Maine
Lol-ing at: at this treasure trove of a collection of email signoffs - and also mentally bookmarking a few.
Feeling: very feminine, very Amalfi-Coast-but-make-it-Colorado chic (a stretch), very Olympia in this white dress. I definitely did not *need* yet another dress, but - real talk: after the aforementioned hurricane season that the past few months have been, I fell out of my regular workout routine, stopped eating as healthy as I normally would like (that said, I DID have a lot of really wonderful bites and sips - lobster rolls and frozen limeade in Maine, buttery biscuits with apricot jam in the Catskills, the perfect slice of pepperoni and burrata (!!) pizza eaten while sitting on a stoop in NYC, my first real Chicago dog in well…you know), and sleep became the last thing on my to-do list. You’re probably rolling your eyes at this point, so I’ll wrap it up - but, anyway, it left me feeling a little mushy and a little blah, yet the moment I ripped open the packaging and slipped this dress on, I just felt *better*. Fully aware it’s the retail therapy-believing consumer in me talking - but hot damn, that is a feeling you just can’t put a price on sometimes, you know?
P.S. if anyone wants to peer pressure me into making this other dress mine, I’m all ears.
Nerdily marveling at: my new favorite pens lol.
Repeatedly making: prosciutto and melon. While visiting Julia in Boston earlier this month, she casually whipped up the most amazing snack plate for dinner that included this combo, reminding me how good - and easy - it is. Now, it’s the only thing I’m bringing when asked to bring an app and incorporating it into my al fresco girl dinners at home weekly.
Call me: a naive childless metaphorical cat woman, but I like this this little perspective shift:
What celebrity do you feel like you would be instant friends with? I think I would be besties with Reese. We would talk about books and shows and our shared love of Nicole Kidman haha.
