It’s always fun to go home for the holidays and try to explain to someone that you write a newsletter and it’s like, actually, interesting?
Chalk it up to my preternatural awareness of people’s facial reactions but often around this time I see eyes glaze over and voices go an octave higher as they say something like, oh, that’s cool…
And then I’m fumbling for words that provide proof of any value I provide on this planet while also feeling a bit bitter at myself for even bringing it up because let’s be real… they are never, ever going to read it.
But hey. That’s on them for being boring and on me, for trying to explain the world’s coolest newsletter to a boring human being. On that note, this is our last issue of the year, so if you read us and you like us, we’ll see you in 2023 cuties. Ciao!
From Meg
Listening to: Merry Tinxmas from the girl with the epic lip liner and life advice that should be a coffee table book
Watching: Emily Fisher’s v v excellent Instagram story reviews on holiday movies. The voice of the season may be cutthroat but she is regal, real, and RIGHT y’all.
Excited about: Going to the Nutcracker for the first time next week! I consider ballet to be the crème de la crème of high society experiences which means that I have officially arrived. Is it weird to buy a scarf just so people in the lobby think WHO IS SHE? Don’t care, doing it.
Wearing: Leather. My annual holiday party is this weekend and the theme is a little femme fatale, a little mystery, a little Devon baked good, and a lot of cheese. There will be corsets. Stay tuned.
Wearing (part 2): I finally found a pair of Levi’s that fit someone with a butt and only cost 45 dollars.
Addicted to: I know I’m late to the game but Fly by Jing Chili Crisp is the best… stocking stuffer. I put it on and in everything, including ice cream. Including mayonnaise!
From Devon
Baking: eggnog snickerdoodles, pan-banging ginger molasses cookies, and good ol’ sugar cookies for my usual holiday cookie spree. I’ve also already got a session with Ellie and two Barry’s classes on the books to help sweat out the pound of cookie dough I will inevitably be eating this weekend.
Nerding out: on this trick to keeping wrapping paper rolls from unraveling, and these beautiful jello shots, of all things.
Scheming: with my mom to go big and do the whole ‘making eggnog from scratch’ thing for Christmas Eve (yes, more eggnog - save your breath, haters). Also, Denver friends - highly recommend ordering Lady Jane’s nog for pickup this week.
Circling back on: this holiday playlist
Inspired by: Becky’s approach* to ‘festive dressing’ and am actively, unabashedly, leaning into the glitz of the holly jolly-iest season. I’ll be the girl with a satin bow clip, dot tights, some velvet, Julie’s pearls, and lots of plaid and sequins till January 1.
*Enjoy getting dressed these next few weeks, because in January, we will be sad the sparkle is over. Though don’t worry, we'll talk flannel robes and perfect PJs then.’
Hoping: that one day I can be the kind of person who uses my leftover wine to be as crafty as this
