Oh hello there! (said with a Bridgerton, ahem, British accent). We are delighted to see you on this new weekday of choice... the darling, the dashing, the daring THURSDAY! Also known as Turtleneck Thursday so break out those cute little neck warmers and settle in, friends. This week’s episode goes well with a spot of tea, a bready bitty biscuit and THIS NEW JAM.
From Meg
Something I truly, truly hate are unnecessary meetings. Reoccurring obligations that we keep doing regardless if they are useful because that’s just what we do, right? Upsetting.
I don’t have a lot of control of this in my job or even in my life. Occasionally, the obsession with routine supersedes the ability to question the usefulness of routine itself. Why do we keep eating bland turkey at Thanksgiving when we clearly should be eating a montage of the best Mexican/Chinese/all cultures of food? Why do we need ‘weekly status calls’? Why do men wear ties? I digress, but bitterly.
I bring all of this up to say, I think it’s important to occasionally switch up what you ‘think’ is working. And today, I’m doing just that. In lieu of my normal writeup, please enjoy this link pack I composed for you instead. I encourage you to read this from a new location, or in a standing position, or out loud to an audience in a park. Do something new today. And then please tell me about it.
The link pack
Pop Up Grocer’s (Have you heard of this? I hadn’t but it sounds just up Devon’s alley and I’m excited for her, in particular, to see how cool I am food wise this week) 2021 food trend predictions. TL;DR: prepare yourself for odd food mashups, wannabe bacon (and other non-meat meat), and inspirational muffins/similar baking fantasies.
If asked, I would gladly accept the invite to live in this doctor’s office in exchange for greeting the patients and scanning their insurance cards. Might go live there regardless of invitation just to be near the warm glow of that delightful green lamp.
Speaking of warm glows, I am recently obsessed with tiny fireplaces. Does this constitute a slight case of pyromania if it’s a design-based fascination?
On that subject… this is the best headline I read this week.
Feeling meh about the Sex and the City reboot but will be one million percent planting myself in front of the tv for the next Peter and Lara Jean installment. Unsolicited opinion: Noah Centineo is the Freddy Prinze Jr. of 2021.
DID YOU KNOW? Clue: cookies.
Zedis Lepideus, an article that comes with a side of butterfly clip nostalgia.
On the subject of cool clips, Chunks is my favorite place to buy doodads for my hair.
Please stop doom scrolling and read a few COVID-19 love stories instead.
Legos are the new puzzles. Point A. Point B. Point buy me this.
From Devon
Hi, it’s me, the ‘D’ of The DM, who still wrote her section in our OG format because Meg went slightly rogue and dropped that fun little link pack on all of us without notice. However! Since I not only agree with the benefit of mixin’ it up on occasion but also just read this piece about the joys of being a ‘first timer’ for life - I’m just here, being *super* chill about all of us trying new things whenever and wherever we can.
Now, go forth and keep digging into this email!
This one’s for the branding nerds
During a recent visit to Almond Surfboards in Costa Mesa, I came across some neat products from Hoodzpah Design and have since become a big fan (aka went down a rabbit hole on their Instagram and website). Do with this what you will, but: please buy this ‘Helvetica in the streets’ diner mug for the person in your life (it can be you) who obsesses over font choice; this poster is a nice well-designed reminder; and their own signature fonts are simply cool to look at.
Tucci-mania
Oh, I’m sorry - you weren’t *slightly* obsessed with Stanley Tucci and his viral Instagram cocktail skills in 2020? This Stanley profile will catch you up to speed and make you all the more eager to see his forthcoming CNN series in which he eats and drink his way around Italy.
Phone a friend
Making friends as an adult can be hard, and after all this social-distancing, we could all use a little more friendly interaction in our lives, right? To help inspire us to move in the connection direction, artist Erin took her ‘friendship project’ to the phones and launched a ‘Friendship Phone Line’. The 4-1-1: call (951)FRNDSHP each day to hear a fun nugget of friendship wisdom, and then put it to practice, should you please.

Boring thrills
You know those moments in which you realize, holy shit, the fact that I’m stoked about this means I must be an ‘adult’ or something? As of late, my little adult joys have been: 1. scoring five fairly good candles from Target for $40, 2. falling asleep more quickly each night by playing Spotify’s ‘Sleep’ playlists with a sleep timer (ambient piano and ocean sounds are my faves), and 3. buying this fabric shaver, with which I promptly removed all the pilings from my sweaters and coats, making me feel like I *kind of, sort of* have a new winter wardrobe.
Oh, my matcha
Though coffee will always be my true caffeinated love, I’ve been on somewhat matcha kick lately. Per Zoe’s recommendation, I’ve been making this matcha collagen latte in the mornings instead of my usual daily French press of Sweet Bloom coffee (if I met me now, I wouldn’t know me); I’ve got my eyes on this Golde matcha tumeric tea blend; and because I saw Katie making matcha white chocolate cookies, I, too, had to make matcha white chocolate cookies - which, is a recipe I insist you try out if you are a green tea lover.
And, before you go, a quick snapshot of what I’m currently:
Listening to: The Avalanches x Leon Bridges | Hot Chip radio | Death Cab for Cutie’s cover of ‘Waterfalls’
Wearing (a lot): this extremely soft Madewell Men’s hoodie
Cooking: this baked tofu and roasted brussels sprouts dish and doubling the veggies because #january
Wanting to buy: this nifty balloon garland kit, for when parties are a thing again
