Good day, good morning, bonjour, and hello. I write to you live from a hotel room in Paris, and though that sentence is only half true or maybe totally false, at some point it will be true, and therefore does it really matter?
Time and location are an illusion on the internet. I could be anywhere, doing anything, yet I’m exactly here.
But enough riddles, the one thing I am definitely not this morning is a player, though I do love games. Specifically, this lie detector banter between Maya Hawke and Camila Mendes. I typically see celeb fodder like this as a twinge obnoxious, but who doesn’t find Maya an absolute delight? If you answered no, you are lying.
Devon and I have a hot date tonight and while you’re all not invited, we’ll be thinking of you fondly. Cheers to you, wherever and whenever you are.
From Meg
Reading: The Humiliating History of the TSA, Michael Pollan’s This is Your Mind on Plants, and if you read just one thing: Haley Nahman’s very hot take on Emma Chamberlain’s ‘deeply personal’ home tour (which is deeply beautiful if not deeply unattainable).
Addicted to: Nothing will fill the giant shoes of Succession but Industry is a speed read of a binge watch. My husband and I have decided its ‘succession meets euphoria’ and I’d like to tack on a sprinkle of Grey’s Anatomy for the ‘interns fight for full-time’ plot line. Lots of finance references that probably go over my head but the dialogue is great and I love the Jay Duplass addition in Season 2. If you’ve seen him in The Chair, you know he does quick wit and indifference like no other. Great hair too.
Coveting: A power suit. Tweed maybe… though it’s pretty irrelevant for life in Denver, I think I could make it work. Honorable mention/plot twist: I also have my eye on a leather trench coat. If only it didn’t cost the same as a down payment on a Tesla.
Traveling: I wasn’t kidding that I’ll be in Paris next week. Marrakech too. If you’re looking for boutique hotel porn, you know where to find me.
From Devon
Making: all-too-drinkable paper plane cocktails, a Dutch apple cake inspired by the infamous Winkels in Amsterdam, and beer-braised chicken tacos in the slow cooker.
Going back on: my word when it came to sticking to my resolution to 'buy no new sweaters in 2022’ in the form of this baby blue mock neck and this striped turtleneck, plus I’ll probably also need a pink one to emulate this lewk. What can I say? I just can’t be trusted when the fall weather hits.
Scheming a stay: at The Tillerman Inn in Vermont for East Coast fall livin’ (might be a 2023 thing), at the Marbella Club in Spain (also, 2023), and at my new friend and female Valle de Guadalupe winemaker Lulu’s villas, paired with several bottles of her tinto.
Adding: a dainty yet bright handwoven bracelet to my arm.
Loving: Abbott Elementary, an award-winning show that is a treasure and an absolute delight; inspirational words from Mary Oliver, always; and this bop, this Bittersweet Symphony cover, and a ‘it’s the 90s and your a leading lady in a nora ephron rom-com’ playlist (*queues up When Harry Met Sally*).
