Yooooooo. It’s Sunday which isn’t our normal drop into your DMs day but we thought what the hey, why not. Hopefully, you’re knee-deep in a mimosa, or a couch, OR A BEACH? Idk, but only want good things for you ever. Anyway, I’ve recently gotten back into audiobooks and just finished the internet-famous Emma Cline book, The Guest. I HAVE THINGS TO SAY ABOUT THIS.
First, The. CRINGE! I had to listen in segments because I found the main character so appalling yet also, so *tWenTy-tWo*. She’s a car crash of a human that I just can’t stop listening to see how it ends (Spoiler: there is an actual car crash somewhere in the book). She’s shady and shitty and it’s dark and sometimes, if I let myself go there… relatable!? Ah. Fodder for therapy, I suppose.
I desperately want to talk to someone about this but have yet to find one person who has read it (plz DM me if you have). In the meantime, I’m just reading Vulture’s Beach Read Book Club where they analyze it chapter-by-chapter to find some validation that others are feeling the same way I do (which is ICK, I feel ick.)
What should I read (or listen to) next? Other than this song obviously, which is a jam. Ok, love ya, mean it!

(Re)watching: Apparently, I’m in my ‘toxic girls in their 20’s entertainment era’ and so naturally I’m rewatching Girls. My friend came to town recently and had never seen it so we decided to watch the first season. I laughed my face off. So many good one-liners that I forgot about. Also- the nostalgia and horror of being 24. I don’t miss it, and somehow I kind of do.
Putting on my face: 1. Maya Chia Super Naked, Plum + Chia Oil (smells like a cookie, works extremely well- light not greasy, all-natural). 2. This game-changing highlighter from Westman Atelier. My husband keeps commenting on how I look like I’m glowing so we can attribute that to this miracle worker.
Reading: Technically I stole this from Haley Nahman’s newsletter but I also am an OG Molly Young fan and everything she writes is funny and odd and totally true. This Disney World ‘review’ on Paris Review is all of those adjectives with an additional layer of magic.
Also reading, Alison Roman’s new store has a newsletter??

Looking for: YOUR recommendations! I am headed to France (specifically Paris) for 5 whole weeks THIS THURSDAY. Tell me all your secrets no matter how mundane. I want to see, eat, drink, and become the entire country of France. You can email me (meg@leftoversfromfriday.com) and I’ll love you forever.

Looking ahead to: fall (while sitting here, very happily eating a plate of summer-ripe tomatoes) in the form of a new lip color, a new cardigan, and possibly a new purse.
Reading: more and more poetry, in books and on Instagram, than ever. Last night, I found out some sad news about a friend who passed away, and this poem hit home.
Dancing to: new-to-me Roosevelt while alone in the car, at home, and walking to the ice cream shop down the street.
Highly recommending: you sign up for Caro Chamber’s ‘What to Cook If You Don’t Feel Like Cooking’ newsletter, cause every recipe not only makes me feel like I’m effortlessly turning into Ina Garten but is also just a straight-up banger. Said recipes include (heads up: paywalls abound) sheet pan chicken and veg with green sauce that is like crack and a Greek salad that is on constant repeat - plus, this Bourisn squash summer galette is defs on my agenda for Labor Day weekend.
Living for: all of the comments on Evan Ross Katz’s And Just Like That posts. It’s like a post-viewing group text for all of us who have been hate/love-watching it like the true Sex and the City lifers that we are.
Scheming: how to get myself to this insanely gorgeous resort in Colima, Mexico, not only for a vacation but perhaps to just go on and move in to.
